It´s an important question…especially when you own and operate 17 specialty coffee and cacao farms, as we do.
Before we get into the Why… ask yourself… What is Agriculture?
“Agriculture is the art and science of cultivating the soil, growing crops and raising livestock. Agriculture provides most of the world’s food and fabrics. Cotton, wool, and leather are all agricultural products. Agriculture also provides wood for construction and paper products.” National Geographic
So, it´s pretty much everywhere we look and in everything we do, use, wear and eat.
It should be easy to make a case for why we should care about the future of agriculture, and why investing in the space makes so much sense.
The Economist states, “in the next 40 years, humans will need to produce more food than they did in the previous 10,000 years put together. But with sprawling cities gobbling up arable land, agricultural productivity gains decreasing, and demand for biofuels increasing, supply is not keeping up with demand.”
Fundamentals of Supply and Demand tell you this is going to be a challenge, and as the famous Will Rogers once said, “Buy land, they ain´t making any more of it”.
